General Introduce:
ATH is a white, odorless powder. It is a material that is neutral and can interact with both acids and alkalis. ATH may promote char to separate the material and fresh oxygen to stop the fire from spreading, and it has a high thermal stability and contains a high percentage of crystal water that can release to absorb heat and lower flammable gas density once it is fire. ATH is frequently utilized as a halogen-free flame retardant in the plastic and rubber industries since it has the advantage of not producing harmful gas when compared to other organic forms of flame retardants. Due to its numerous applications and inexpensive price, ATH has grown to be the most widely used flame retardant in the world.
There are numerous grades of ATH based on particle size to accommodate various uses. 1-15um ATH are commonly employed as a filler or flame retardant in plastics, rubber, or coatings.
The smallest particle size grade produced by the precipitated method is ATH-1. It is primarily utilized in applications requiring fine distribution, such as wire & cable, coating, ink, etc. for instance, PVC, PE, PP cable, etc.
The most popular grade produced by micronized mills is ATH-5-15um. It can be used for a variety of rubber and plastic applications, including rubber conveyor belts, SMC, BMC, coatings, pipe, and insulation materials.
The primary application of ATH 20-50um grade as a filler material is the production of imitation marble, glass, etc.
ATH additive amounts can reach up to 30-65 phr in normal circumstances;
The material's mechanical properties are easily influenced, so its volume should be kept under control. Synergism is highly strong and can greatly enhance performance when AL (OH) 3 is composited with other types of fire retardants, such as Zinc Borate, Phosphorus, and PBDEs.
The compatibility and combination with plastic materials can be improved so that it is simple to evenly distribute into material. The performance of fire retardant and mechanical properties is then better than standard grade AL (OH) 3. ATH can be surface treated with non-polar polymer of stearic acid or silicon oil.
