LION is a well-known daily chemical brand and consumer goods manufacturing firm in Japan. Hadakara body wash from the firm is a medical deodorant body wash with the goal of avoiding smells. However, early research and development revealed that several components added to this shower gel had a strong flavor, an unpleasant odor that is challenging to mask, and an unfavorable user experience. Therefore, the scientists discovered through their trials that adding Hydroxypropyl Beta Cyclodextrin (HPBCD) can significantly alleviate this issue.
A beta-cyclodextrin etherified derivative is hydroxypropyl beta cyclodextrin (128446-35-5). Beta-intramolecular cyclodextrin's cyclic hydrogen bond is broken by the addition of hydroxypropyl. While keeping the cyclodextrin cavity, the primary drawback of beta-poor cyclodextrin's water solubility is eliminated. At the same time, hydroxypropyl betacyclodextrin functions similarly to an odor adsorbent and can cover up offensive odors or make them less noticeable.
